It’s not
often that I write about non
boxing matters, but when World
Boxing Federation legend, former
WBF world champion Holly Holm
does incredible work, it’s
certainly worthy of writing
something commendable about this
very special young lady.
I was fortunate in 2012 to
supervise the WBF world title
fight between Holly and amazing
French Ann Sophie Mathis in
Albuquerque, New Mexico.Two
outstanding fighters and world
champions, and at the time
pound-for-pound # 1 and # 2 in
the world in women's boxing - a
women's superfight!
The WBF’s
“Female Fight of the Year” was
truly a great one with Holly
winning a tough battle and it
was then that I knew she was a
superstar in the making (if not
already). What struck me about
“The Preacher's Daughter”, as
she is affectionately called,
was not only her remarkable
ability, her lightning fast
hand-speed, her outstanding
lateral movement and her amazing
power in both hands, but more so
was the extreme down to earth
nature of Holly.
Humble,
polite and unassuming, Holly had
more of a model-like look, than
that of the best female fighter
in the world. Always willing to
talk to fans, always ready to
sign autographs – Holly Holm
epitomized all that is good in
boxing and of course as our
champion all that is good with
the World Boxing Federation.
When she
moved to another form of combat,
all boxing people were extremely
disappointed to be losing such a
talented fighter, but we all
knew deep down that Holly had
accomplished all she had to in
boxing and that another
challenge was what she needed.
Ronda Rousey,
even with all her talk and hype,
has nothing to be embarrassed
about. After all she fought one
of the most talented fighters in
the history of women's sport,
and on the day was simply not
good enough against the
ferocious Holly Holm.
Holly Holm – the World Boxing
Federation applauds your
achievements in all forms of
combat. You are a true champion
both in and out the ring, and
are an inspiration to the youth
of today who can dream about
reaching the levels you have
reached. I for one am privileged
to have seen you box for our WBF
world title.
We congratulate you and wish you
all the best for the future!
Until next time, keep boxing.
