The World Boxing Federation
strives for excellence and
inclusivity. Every member of our
team, from the top to the
bottom, from world champion to
regional champion, from
experienced industry players to
those starting out - each and
every person affiliated to our
organization is important and
plays an integral part in our
success story.
Perhaps unlike other
organizations (people know I
hate to make comparisons) we
pride ourselves on being almost
a "family organization" even
considering the incredible
growth that has occurred in the
WBF over the past eighteen
months. It is important to me,
and equally to the principles of
the WBF, that everyone knows one
another, and that people are not
simply "faces in the crowd".
In my column I do sometimes
spotlight certain individuals,
but do not for one second assume
that it makes others less
important. It does not; it
simply allows me to comment on
issues that may be relevant at
that point in time. So, that
being said, I am indeed going to
endorse what is all over the
internet at present - that we
are the top organization in the
world with regard to women’s
boxing and we do not intend to
rest there. We will get bigger,
better, stronger and become
dominant and each stumbling
block thrown our way will only
make us more determined, rest
assured.
I am extremely excited on
everyone's behalf when I talk
about the upcoming fight between
two of the finest women boxers
ever. Our welterweight champion
Anne Sophie Mathis, a French
lady of class, talent, sublime
skills and a role model to all,
together with her outstanding
record of 26-1 with 22 KO's, and
of course rated # 1 in the
world, comes up again against
Holly Holm who also just happens
to be the # 2 in the world,
herself boasting a fine record
of 30-2-3 with 9 KO's.
This just happens to be one of
the biggest women’s fights of
the year if not the past few
years, and we are indeed proud
to be involved in this fight in
New Mexico. A heated debate
continues regarding women’s
boxing in general, but the truth
of the matter is that women have
the right to box, none more so
than two wonderfully talented
and exceptional women in Anne
and Holly.
Until next time, keep boxing.
