Real Steel Promotions has put
together a massive night of
boxing on Friday March 23 at the
Edenvale Community Centre in
Johannesburg, South Africa, with
two highly interesting World
Boxing Federation (WBF)
Championship fights topping a
nine-bout card.
Billed as “Unstoppable”, the
main event features undefeated
puncher Emmany Kalombo fighting
for the vacant WBF
Intercontinental Super
Welterweight title in what is
his biggest test to date against
former title-holder, and
reigning South African Champion,
Nkululeko Mhlongo.
Born in the Democratic Republic
of the Congo but based in South
Africa for many years, “The
General” Kalombo is 8-0 (8) in
the paid ranks, while “Bulldog”
Mhlongo is a former two-time
world title-challenger and far
more seasoned at 16-5 (12).
In a classic “Youth vs.
Experience” encounter, Kalombo
is looking to pick up his first
championship in the
professionals and prove that he
is the real deal, and Mhlongo,
who has never been stopped
inside the distance, is
determined to secure himself a
third crack at world honours.
In the evenings co-featured
bout, 2008 South African
Olympian Jackson “M3” Chauke,
14-1-1 (10), takes on compatriot
Sihle Jelwana, 8-3 (6), in
another intriguing match-up,
with the vacant WBF
International Flyweight title on
the line.
Chauke should probably be
considered a slight favourite,
but both men carry considerable
power and has won their last
four outings inside the
distance. With high confidence
on both sides, this one could
easily be a case of who lands
first.
Two fifty-fifty fights, with
four hungry quality boxers who
have a combined 36 stoppages in
46 victories, against only 9
defeats. Tickets reportedly
selling fast, it is hard to see
how the fans will not get their
moneys worth on March 23!
